About

Hello, my name is Chip Van Alstyne.  I am a Lead Solutions Engineer for Salesforce Maps.   In this role, I help my clients understand how they can use geospatial visualizations to improve their sales processes.  This includes: route planning, territory assignments and service utilization.  I began my sales career as a Sales Engineer for Optio Software and Information Builders and most recently 9 years with IBM.  I have held roles in Development, Training, Project Management and Implementation since moving to Atlanta in 1994.  Prior to that, I lived in Florida and commuted to school.

I hold a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Computer Science and Statistics and was a member of the Association for Computing Machinery as well as a Resident Assistant.

Outside of Salesforce, I am a member of the Technology Association of Georgia.  I am currently serving as President and Media Committee Chairman for the Robert Forsyth Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.  I am also a member of the Holland Society of New York and a former member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.  I attend St Columba's Episcopal Church in Johns Creek, GA and am a member of their men's group and breakfast teams.  I am also an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 143 (John's Creek UMC).  In this role, I am a Patrol Coach for the Bison patrol, a Merit Badge Counselor for multiple merit badges, mentor the boys on their leadership and advancement and was a Crew Advisor for our trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM.  We completed Trek Lucky 13 summiting Mt Baldy (12,441 ft) and hiking ~61 miles in early July, 2019.  I also recently became an Assistant Scoutmaster for my daughter's troop, 5109 at Buford Presbyterian Church.  She and I are officially founding members of a troop.  I have been married to JoAnn since 2000 and we have 3 children.  We live in Cumming, GA and enjoy hanging out with our neighbors, cheering for the SFHS Marching Band and Girl's Lacrosse teams as well as trying out new restaurants and attending concerts.
